Marari Beach Resort

Located a little before the famous beach town of Alleppey, Marari Beach, too, has its share of fame. Covering 55 acres of land, it consists of lawns, ponds, coconut groves and lush property. The place is only an hour away from Cochin.

The resort’s huts are built to resemble fishermen’s dwellings in the area. Though looking traditional it has all the modern facilities that tourists need. The air conditioning is good, and there’s no room to worry about any creep-crawlies. The washrooms are built in Kerala style, with a partially open roof.

Choose one of the pool villa cottages for an interesting stay. They are suite-styled and have a secluded walled courtyard with a private pool all for you.

You can choose rich, spicy seafood that the locals prefer or go for toned versions of the same. There’s international cuisine to choose from, too. Either way the cuisine is awesome. Live music often accompanies the dinner. An evening grill at the beach is an added attraction.

The resort grows its own greens, fruits and vegetables for the restaurants. You know where they get their fresh seafood from, don’t you? The resort practices water harvesting and Marari Beach is a chemical-free zone where only natural oils and local remedies are used for pest control. Vermiculture and composting keep the soil fertile, both in the organic farm and on the grounds. In fact, you can not only see these activities at work, you can even participate! Help pick some seasonal fruit or even plant a tree or two.

The bar at Marari is in a beautiful 200-year old building, deep in a thicket of trees and lotus ponds. Enjoy a 'Panchamrutam' (a heady local concoction) in the midst of colonial-style spaces. At the Beach Shack you can sit near the waters and have a drink or two.

Marari Beach has a fully equipped ayurvedic centre. Choose from rejuvenation therapies to relaxation massages. Attend regular yoga classes on the beach, too, if interested.
